The EU Mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’ launched the Mission Soil Manifesto, which highlights the urgent need to protect soil health and aims to unite various stakeholders such as regions, municipalities, organizations, businesses, schools, and citizens. The Manifesto aims to establish 100 living labs and lighthouses that will pave the way for healthy soils in both rural and urban areas by 2030. Signatories of the Manifesto can demonstrate their commitment to soil health protection and restoration. The Manifesto will be presented at the Committee of the Regions on 20 April 2023 in Tampere, Finland, and signatories will be celebrated in the first edition of the European Mission Soil Fair in November. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-27 ensures compliance with rules to protect soil and encourages farmers to take extra steps to improve soil management. The SOILGUARD project and the Mission Soil Manifesto share the goal of enhancing soil health in Europe, with the former focusing on developing a tool for monitoring and managing soil health, and the latter aiming to unite stakeholders towards a common goal.
