The European Mission Soil Week 2024 brought together key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers in the soil and agriculture sectors to discuss strategies for enhancing soil health across Europe. Organized within the Mission Soil framework, the event gave the opportunity to Mission Soil projects to highlight their innovations, best practices, and collaborative opportunities aimed at achieving sustainable soil management. With engaging panel discussions, interactive workshops, and a showcase of groundbreaking research, the Soil Week underscored the critical role of soil health in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security challenges.
Although SOILGUARD is not formally part of the Soil Mission initiative, the project was proud to contribute to the event’s dialogue and knowledge-sharing opportunities. Our colleagues Marc Rosiers, Ranya Chehhar (ELO), Alberto Martín and Facundo Odriozola (IUCN) actively engaged with participants, sharing insights about SOILGUARD’s goals to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance soil biodiversity. Dissemination activities during the event allowed Marc to highlight the project’s innovative approaches, fostering connections with professionals from academia, land managers, food processors and producers, and policy sectors.
Participating in the European Mission Soil Week 2024 was a valuable experience for SOILGUARD, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between the different projects and their stakeholders in advancing soil health goals. The event provided a platform to exchange ideas, explore synergies, and gain visibility for SOILGUARD’s work. It also offered insights that will enrich our efforts to empower land managers, whether it be landowners and/or farmers, with tools for sustainable soil management.
